Web Counters

Web Counters come either in the form of Java Applets or CGI scripts and are used to track the number of "hits" your site recieves. All counters have an accompanying data file which stores the current rating of your site. In order to utilize a counter, you must either have a Java or CGI enabled web server and the proper scripts or classes, or must apply to a special "Service" provider, that either charges you for your counter, or collects information about you to earn money for him/herself. There are a few sites though, erected just to help the common web developer, that provide remote counter services for free. I have found a few, most of them are services provided by webservers that you are a member of.

Site Statistics

These handy utilities track not only how many people have come to your site, but request and then save their computers, operating system, the time and date at which they loaded your site and how many times they've visited. They also show a complete history of site visitations.

Stat Track: Displays graphs and histograms showing you the number of hits per day, hour, and/or month. This tracker can be made public or private... depending on whom you wish to view your site's visitors.

Search Engines

Search engines provide the best method of tracking down rescources, and making your site available for some surfer or new user to find. Here are the links to some.

Banner Exchanges

Banner exchanges are meant to increase the traffic of your site, by displaying another site's banner on your's. For each click on your page, your banner is displayed on someone else's. The services are free, and often the banner of the service provider is one of those displayed.

Images/Clip Art

The only thing that makes a web site better than plain text (aside from interactivity and sound) are the images and fonts included on it. Unfortunately, one must often pay for such addons, or steal them from other sites. Well stealing or not, here are some sites, some of which are built meerly to allow their images and fonts to be used.

aecletic: Contains dark poetry, tarot card images, and Gothic Art (most of which is copyrighted so DON'T download it, if you plan on using it). Also offers many links to Pagan/Gothic Rescources.
Whispering Alley: Home page of gothic writer: K.R. Mcgee. Also contains many links to good gothic webrings.
Clip Art Castle: HUGE database of FREE images and rescources. Includes clip art, 3D images, and the like.
Flat Earth: Contains a large list of free fonts for download.
Fontanelle: Contains many industrial band's fonts.
fonts for freaks: Freeware/Commercial Gothic font sight. I recommend this one.
Fonts: Small list of free fonts. Good though.

The Web Developer's Virtual Library: Offers a huge array of information, including such topics as HTML, DHTML, Java, CGI, JavaScript, as well as many tutorials including and far expanding each.
Big Nose Bird's Rescources: Offers Scripts, Links, and Tutorials. An especially good, if brief, tutorial on SSI.
Really Big Network: Amply named. This site offers links and rescources pertaining to all aspects of web programming and web design.
